In Honor of Coach Andreason
The home opener, while a slobber knocker, was not without ceremony. After a full team introduction a plaque was presented to St. Francis Desales Principal Dan Garrick. The tribute to the beginning of varsity ice hockey at St. Francis DeSales contained three pucks and pictures from the ceremonial face-off at the Stallions' inaugural home game.
Principal Garrick was also presented with a commemoration of the Stallions' first ever Varsity goal. Ben Janszen, who scored the goal the previous year, presented the plaque.
The final presentation was to former Stallions' Head Coach Greg Andreason to honor his dedication to the program. Coach Andreason was the first coach of the team and left the program after last season to better serve his country as a Master Sargent in the United States Army.
When asked Head Coach Tom Maxwell said, "Greg Andreason laid the foundation upon which we all continue to build. Without his dedication and leadership this season would not be possible."
Coach Andreason was the epitome of intense since he started coaching the team in 2004. In recognition of his competitiveness and intensity the team's Purple and White Award, given by the Booster Association and the off-ice officials to the most intense competitor of the season will now be known as The Coach Andreason Award.
Coach Jon Edwards had this to say, "I've played hockey against Greg and have had the privilege to coach with him. I learned a lot about coaching from him and am very thankful that he took me on last year."
The entire Desales Hockey family thanks Coach Andreason for his years of service and wish him the best. We hope you keep coming to see us coach and that we are making you proud.
