JV Coaches Announced

The Stallions Ice Hockey Program (SIHP) is proud to announce Cam Stalnaker and Ben Meier as the Associate Head Coaches for the Stallions Junior-Varsity (JV) ice hockey team. Coach Stalnaker and Coach Meier will share the duties of head coach throughout the 2007-08 season.

Coach Tom Maxwell, the head coach of the varsity team says of the announcement; "We set out to find coaches that will be something more then just a hockey coach to the players of our JV team, I am confident we made the right choice with Coach Meier and Coach Stalnaker.

Coach Meier says of joining the Stallions Program; "I am excited to start my coaching career and proud that it is with the Stallions Ice Hockey Program." Meier started playing hockey on a house league team within the Columbus Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA). He attended Upper Arlington High School where he played both on the JV and Varsity hockey teams with current varsity assistant coach Jon Edwards. Coach Edwards adds; "I'm thrilled to be working with such a good friend and former teammate.

Coach Stalnaker is a USA Hockey Level 4 certified coach. Like Coach Meier, Stalnaker is a product of youth hockey in Columbus, Ohio. He started playing house league with the Central Columbus Youth Hockey Association (CCYHA) and then with the St. Charles JV program. Once in high school he was a member of the Kent's Hill Prepatory team in Maine and then went on to play for New England College. Since returning to Columbus he has stayed active with youth hockey teaching in the Blue Jacket youth organization.

Lisa Janszen, the program general manager welcomes both coaches to the DeSales community; "We are growing our hockey program each year and this is one more stepping stone to being the premier high school program in Central Ohio."

The Stallions JV team will be competing in the JV Capital Hockey Conference against such teams as Athens, Newark, Troy, Westerville and Hilliard. The team will be playing under USA Hockey rules allowing high school age players from other schools, including home schooled and those that will be in the 8th grade for the 2007-08 school year to join the team.

Try-outs for the JV Stallions will be done when the entire program takes to the ice for the Conditioning Camp. The first day is Sunday September 16, 3:30PM at Chiller North. Additional times can be found by clicking here.
