Farkas Jumps High
Senior Matt Farkas, a forward for the St. Francis DeSales High School (DHS) varsity hockey team has qualified for the D-II State High Jump Championship.
Tom Maxwell, head coach of the varsity hockey team says of Matt's success; "I am very proud of Matt. All of his coaches and teammates from the hockey program wish him well and success at the Track & Field State Championship. I will be there in the stands to cheer him on."
Farkas won the High School District title and later placed second in Regional's with jumps of 6'4". He also successfully defended his Central Catholic Championship (CCL) title with a personal best jump of 6'5".
Denzy, Matt's mother says of his accomplishments; "This is wonderful. He has done this without a dedicated High Jump coach. Besides for going to the Ohio State's summer camp he has had little coaching at the High Jump."
Farkas also competes in the 300M Hurdles, 4X4 Relay and the Long Jump but the High Jump is his specialty. His goal is to be a member of the All State's Team by placing in the top 8 High Jumpers.
Farkas was a team captain on the DHS varsity ice hockey team for the 2006-07 season. He split much of his playing team between forward and defense. He finished that inaugural season with 4 points and 38 penalty minutes.
The D-II State High Jump Championship kicks off at Ohio State's Jesse Owens center at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 1st.
