Ramirez Invitational Preview

The St. Francis Desales Stallions (1-6-0-1, 0-2-0-1) with take part in the Annual Landon Ramirez Invitational this Weekend. This tournament is in memory of 2000 Worthington Kilbourne graduate and former team Captain Landon Ramirez.

Memorial
Ramirez was a First-Team All-Conference defenseman. In March of 2001 he was killed in a tragic car accident. This invitational started as a scrimmage between his friends and evolved into a full Invitational tournament in 2003.

The Stallions will have three games over the weekend and are aiming for a fourth, the championship game on Sunday. All games will be played at the Chillers North complex.

CHC Foe
Their weekend will start with non-conference play against Capital Hockey Conference (CHC) foe Thomas Worthington (3-5-0-1, 2-3-0-1) on Friday, December 7th at 10pm.

This will be the first time DeSales has met Thomas this year. The two teams have met once previous where the Cardinals came out on top, 8 - 2. They will face each other in conference play on January 4th.

The Cardinals started conference play last weekend and came away 1-2 on the weekend. Thomas lost to Olentangy Liberty and Dublin Jerome while beating Upper Arlington.

The previous weekend saw an 8-0 victory of Dublin Scioto and a heartbreaking shootout loss to suburban rival Worthington Kilbourne.

The Cardinals are experience-laden team with eight seniors on the roster including Alternate Captains Jackson Proctor and Brian Rosensteel. The Cardinals are led by Senior Captain Erich Rottenbiller and backstopped by Senior Goalie Phil Dollens.

vs. Troy
On Saturday, December 8th, Desales will face the Troy Trojans of the Southwest Ohio High School Hockey League at 9pm.

The Troy Trojans come to town having played in only one SWOHSHL game, a close 4-5 loss to Alter. Their overall record stands at 3-3.

This will be the first time the Stallions have faced the Trojans in regular season play. The Stallions overall lifetime record against SWOHSHL opponents is 0-4-1.

The Trojans bring considerable experience to the table with ten seniors on their eighteen man roster. Troy spots a senior net-minder; #30 Carney Conner who is 3-0 on the season with wins against Clay, Beavercreek and Toledo Central Catholic. The Trojans are led in scoring by #8 Colin Trudeau( senior), with 10 goals and 16 points in 6 games.

The Stallions will finish off round-robin play against another SWOHSHL opponent in the Moeller Crusaders. That game will take place at Noon on Sunday, December 9th and will hopefully be followed up with an appearance in the championship game at 5:40pm.

This is the first time DeSales and Moeller have faced-off against each other.

The Crusaders are 3-0 in conference play with wins over St. Xavier, Sycamore and Talawanda. They are 4-3 overall on their season with their first win coming over Toledo South. Moeller has six seniors and seven juniors to make this the third opponent with plenty of experience. Goaltender Stephen Kelczewski (junior) is 3-0 on the season with a 0.945 save percentage and a 1.33 goals against average. The team is led in scoring by sophomores Ryan Boyd and Nate Han as well as junior Jonathan Korst at 4 points each.
