Two Varsity Captains Named
The Stallions varsity ice hockey team has named the first 2 varsity captains for the 2007-08 season. Head Coach Tom Maxwell announced Corbin Steinhaus as the team Captain and Paul 'Shorty" Tavella as an Alternate Captain.
"We are waiting for a player to step up prior to the season to show us he can be a leader and hold the values of the Stallions Ice Hockey Program high;" says Coach Maxwell of selecting only two Captains at this time.
The Captains were voted on by the returning varsity players and approved by the coaches.
This will be Steinhaus' second year as a captain for the varsity team. "Corbin has been the most reliable player we have and I think the team should look forward to another season under his leadership;" says Coach Edwards.
Steinhaus leads by example on the ice and in the locker room. His extra effort during practice and off-ice work-outs has paid off as one of the team's most reliable and stalwart defensemen. He was the recipient of the team's Academic Award, Most Valuable Defenseman Award, an All CHC-Team Honorable Mention and a DHS Scholar Athlete for the 2006-07 season.
He transferred to St. Francis DeSales High School (DHS) from Olentangy High School prior to the team's inaugural season.
This will be Tavella's second year on the varsity team and first year as a captain. Tavella earned the nickname Shorty for leading the team in shorthanded goals during the team's inaugural season. He is a dedicated player with enough heart for the entire Stallions Ice Hockey Program (SIHP).
Tavella says of being a team captain and playing his senior year; "My goal is to leave everything out on the ice and not to lose my focus. I want to be proud of my last year of playing high school hockey with everyone for the last and final time."
The St. Francis DeSales varsity hockey team season starts November 2007. The team's schedule will be released September 1, 2007.
